The Brazilian beer market wins a new version of the packaging: the first glass growler produced in Brazil. The two-liter returnable bottle, developed by Owens Illinois, was created, according to the glassmaker, to provide a solution that provides economical and sustainable consumption of beer. “Because it is returnable, the growler avoids the consumption and disposal of packaging. In addition, it is also cost-effective because it allows the beverage to be marketed at lower prices, “explains Daniel Amaral, Marketing Manager, Innovation and New Product Development at O-I.
The glassmaker had already noted growers’ growing demand for breweries, but identified that no company produced such glass packaging in Brazil, forcing producers to import the bottles or opt for versions in other materials. It was then that the idea of elaborating a model that met the needs of the market was born. “We have always been close to the producers of specialty beers, with the wide variety of glasses and bottles for the craft beer segment. We have created the glass growler to be one of the best packaging solutions for draft beer on the market. Another advantage is that, because it is in glass, the bottle keeps the original flavor and freshness of the drink, “says Daniel.
